Conservative Pulse?

[edit]

Conservative Pulse as used here [1] hardly seems a reliable source and more importantly, it doesn't support the contention that many outside observers have noted what it's claim. CP only mentions their opinion, and not the opinion of other outside observers. Nil Einne (talk) 17:38, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, saw this. The source may or may not be valid, but the contention drawn from it seems to have a number of problems. "Many outside observers have noted that Abdel Aziz holds most of the actual political power in Mauritania, acting as a de facto dictator even when a civilian government has been elected."
First, "Many"? I see one.
Second, while he was powerful under Abdallahi, it was a contentious relationship, in which Abdel Aziz had a competing power structure apparently, but not one in which the President was controlled. If Abdallahi was controlled by anyone, it was a series of family memebers and advisors who have been the target of gossip about corrupt practices (his wife was reported to have racked up a 1million usd air travel bill alone).
Lastly "dictator"? Was the regime under Abdallahi a dictatorship? The only sources that argue anything CLOSE to that are supporters of the coups that say it was sliding toward personal rule, not that it was a dictatorship. In short, the phrase needs to be reomoved if additional sources aren't found to support all three of those controversial contentions. T L Miles (talk) 19:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a month, not ref was forthcoming, so I removed it. T L Miles (talk) 06:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
